Reserve a module name

Every module is @dashnex/[address]. The name rules, the 500 DNX reservation for 90 days, the waiver for the first 100 businesses, the one extension, the 4-name limit and when a reserved name expires.

Address and name

Reserving a name asks for two things:

  • Module address: the part after @dashnex/. DashNex checks live whether it is available.
  • Module name: the display name businesses see, for example "Marketing 101".

Both are fixed once reserved and can't be changed.

Name rules. Use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, for example marketing-101. The address can't start or end with a hyphen. Some names are locked: every existing @dashnex/* package, plus a DashNex reserved list of high-level names such as ecommerce, affiliate, affiliates, partnership and partnerships, with more to be added.

The order

Click Reserve a name on the Developers page. The order shows the name with its availability, the reservation (90 days, until a date), and a one-time fee of 500 DNX. Click Reserve for 500 DNX.

The fee is charged to your credit balance and appears in Credits → Transactions with the type "Module name reservation". If you don't have enough credits, the button is disabled and the order says "Top up your credit balance and come back."

The fee is one-time and not refunded, even if you never submit a version.

Fee waived for the first 100 businesses

The first reservation of each of the first 100 unique businesses is free. Those businesses see the same order with 500 DNX struck through and Free next to it. The waiver is used up by that first reservation, even if the name later expires.

Extend once

You can extend a reservation once, for another 500 DNX and another 90 days. Click Extend in the Reservation panel on the module page before the reservation expires.

Expiry

If no version has been submitted for review by the end of the reservation (90 days, or 180 after an extension), the name is released and becomes available to others.

An expired name is not refunded. The clock stops for good once you submit the first version, so review time and rejections never expire a name.

Limits and ownership

  • Each business can hold up to 4 unpublished names. A name counts while it is reserved, in review, rejected or approved, which means anything not yet published.
  • Once the first version of a module is published, the name belongs to that business for life.

After reserving

A confirmation reads "{Module name} is reserved" with @dashnex/[address] under it, and lists the five steps to get started. Follow them in Get started with your module; you can find them any time in the Guide.

Your first reservation also raises an app redeploy request. The owner runs it, and it installs @dashnex/dev, the module that connects your app with business.dashnex.com. App shows the amber Redeploy required notice until then. For the program basics, see Developers program.
